Lighting for a grand entrance

We are fortunate to have a large foyer in our house. It's the perfect place to kick off your shoes, park the wagon and wipe off the dog after a walk. And until recently, we did all those things in the dark, as there was no light fixture in the foyer.

Not good. To make the entrance to our home as grand as possible, we bought a very impressive fixture at Lowe's.

Mr. Electric installed it. He also put in the 100 watt bulbs we bought to make our entrance as bright and grand as possible.

Count 'em: nine 100 watt bulbs. For a chandelier. That's grand, right?

Now, turning on the light in the foyer is like turning on the sun itself.

We may have overdone it with the grand. Just a bit.

I love that fixture - it's so warm and bright - perfect for when we have those bitter, cold winter days! Luckily, those are still months away.

Ditto, it looks very warm, homey and welcoming. Good choice, miniMartha.

Beautiful! Your whole house is beautiful! We have a high ceiling too and our entryway has this little round light fixture that could definitely use an upgrade like yours!

thanks, ladies! this light fixture works in the winter, but it's like a lighthouse through that big window. 900 watts!?! What was I thinking?!

Ooh, I really like it! I think you should take a shot at night so we call see how bright it really is. It looks ok in these shots, but then again, its the middle of the day.

We purchased a very similar chandelier for our dining room from Lowe's. It also has 9 bulbs...it is WAY too much for a dining room! I too wanted a grand look, but we'll be installing a dimmer switch soon because nobody should feel like they're in a questioning room when they're eating dinner! :)

Suz,
it does look okay in these pictures, but at night it's a bit much.

Jean,
Would you like spaghetti, or would you like to tell me where you were on the night of MARCH 26? WHERE WERE YOU?????

Oh wait, you were with me. Okay, interrogation over. Please pass the spaghetti. ;)
