Baby Girl's first birthday cake

For BabyGirl's first birthday cake, I wanted to come up with something spectacular. Inspiration finally struck when I saw this Rose Cake on i am baker

Here's BabyGirl's cake:

I thought about icing the sides of the cake, but decided against it. The brown/chocolate cake and pink frosting made such a striking color palette that I didn't want to cover up the cake.

The frosting is, of course, all buttercream.  It's so good, I hardly ever bother with anything else.

Thanks to i am baker for posting the tutorial for making the roses.  It was a cinch!

Happy first birthday to my BabyGirl!

What tip did you use for the centers?

beautiful cake, btw :)

I used a 1M tip--it was a breeze! Or should I say, a piece of cake? ;)

Good one :)
...one more question...would that be a star tip? (I'm new to cake decorating)

It is a very large star tip. I recommend that you view the tutorial on the I Am Baker website--it was a big help for me. The link is in the post. Have fun!

Hi. I found your beautiful cake on Pinterest and fell in love with it! I want to make it for my daughter's first birthday in a week or so. Would you mind posting your recipe for the icing? The recipes for buttercream that I have found online say that they don't work well for making flowers? Thank you so much for the inspiration! :)

Hi, Anonymous! My buttercream recipe is from Wilton, though I use slightly more butter than shortening. That recipe works just fine for making the large roses. Good luck with the cake!
